HBO’s new DC drama “Lanterns” begins production at Warner Bros. It stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as Green Lanterns investigating a murder.
A New Era for Green Lantern
HBO has officially kicked off production on “Lanterns“, its upcoming DC drama series, at the historic Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. The highly anticipated show, produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, brings the legendary Green Lantern mythology to life with a fresh, grounded approach.
A Gritty Mystery with an Intergalactic Twist
The series follows John Stewart, a new recruit, and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan as they take on a dark, earthbound murder case in the heartland of America. As intergalactic law enforcers, their investigation leads them into a larger mystery that could shake the universe.
Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team
With a powerhouse cast led by Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan, the series also features Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen in key roles.
Chris Mundy, executive producer and showrunner says, “From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion. The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”
Top-Tier Talent Behind the Scenes
The Lanterns pilot is co-written by Mundy, “Watchmen’s” Damon Lindelof, and DC Comics writer Tom King. James Hawes (Slow Horses) directs the first two episodes, with Stephen Williams (Westworld), Geeta Vasant Patel (House of the Dragon), and Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones) also attached to direct.
With James Gunn and Peter Safran leading DC Studios, “Lanterns” is sure to be a major entry in the new era of DC storytelling. Fans, like me, expect a series that honors its comic book roots while delivering a fresh, cinematic experience…stay tuned!
