On November 29, 2024 Logos University (UniLogos) conferred the title of Honorary Doctor to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, the General Dr. Umaro Sissoco Embaló. The honor recognizes the President’s remarkable work in favor of the country’s development and the well-being of the Guinean population. The award was presented by the International Honorary Rector, Dr. Manuel Beninger, in a solemn ceremony marked by significant cultural and academic contributions.
During the event, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló inaugurated the Amphitheater of the Amílcar Cabral Public University, which, from now on, bears his name as a tribute to his commitment to education and the country’s progress. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of scientific and technological training as pillars for the future of Guinea-Bissau.
The ceremony was attended by the Academy of Letters and Arts of Guinea-Bissau, the only one in the country, and had the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic. The Academy, which promotes culture and knowledge, had already strengthened ties with UniLogos in 2021, when the President of Logos University, Prof. Dr. Gabriel Lopes, was admitted as an honorary member of the institution.
Among those present were important authorities, such as the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research of Guinea-Bissau, Dr. Braima Sanhá, and the Magnificent Rector of the Amílcar Cabral Public University, Prof. Dr. Herculano Arlindo Mendes. The ceremony was also attended by members of the academic community and representatives of national and international institutions.
The Magnificent Rector of Logos University, Prof. Dr. William A. Harrison emphasized that the title granted to General Dr. Umaro Sissoco Embaló is a recognition not only of his personal achievements, but also a tribute to the entire Guinean people. “This moment is an honor for the Professorship of Doctors of Logos University, because by honoring His Excellency the President, we celebrate Guinea-Bissau’s commitment to educational and social development,” he stated.
The awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa reflects Logos University’s commitment to recognizing global leaders who, through their work, promote significant advances in education, culture and social well-being.
