A Career Rooted in Community Service

Claybrooks recently ran as a candidate for New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. Before that, she served as a Councilwoman for East Orange’s Second Ward and as Director of the Division of Planning for the City of Plainfield. Throughout her career, she has focused on:

  • Improving grant programs to support small businesses
  • Ensuring accountability from corporate stakeholders

Her leadership roles have involved managing relationships between local, state, and federal agencies, with a strong commitment to making government work for the people.

  • Congressional Black Caucus Foundation – serving in Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s office
  • Young Invincibles – a nonprofit advocating for millennials in areas like higher education, healthcare, and economic development

“I think this election is reflective of of both the horror of racism and oppression that we have seen before and the hope of change that always prevails in times like this. It is the beauty of living in this country. My hope and work is rooted in the accountability that should follow the high of this moment. Young adults and first time voters really want to know what this means for us. It has always been that way. It is just our generation’s turn now. We must both accept and show up in that!”
