Mayor Butts of Inglewood Oversees Concert Effort to Support Wildfire Relief
The City of Inglewood came together on Saturday January 18, 2025 for an extraordinary evening of music, unity, and purpose as Mayor James Butts and the City of Inglewood hosted a benefit concert at the grand opening of We Play Studios. The event served a dual purpose: celebrating the launch of the state-of-the-art creative space and raising vital funds to support victims of the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
A highlight of the evening was a heartfelt recognition of Larrance Dopson of the acclaimed music collective 1500 or Nothin’, who was honored with a proclamation from Senator Laura Richardson, Mayor James Butts, and Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor. Dopson’s leadership in music and his dedication to community impact were celebrated as shining examples of creativity and service.
The benefit concert featured show-stopping performances by Larussell, Lady London, Mario, Jon B, BJ The Chicago Kid, Rhapsody, Xzibit, D Smoke and more. DJ Battlecat kept the energy high with his electrifying mixes, while Cece Valencia of KDAY and B-Nyce of Power 106 hosted the event with their vibrant energy and crowd engagement.
Key to the success of this collaboration was Sharis Rhodes, Chief of Staff to Mayor Butts, who played an instrumental role in connecting We Play Studios and 1500 or Nothin’ with the City of Inglewood. Her efforts ensured the event embodied the city’s commitment to creativity and community service.
Notable attendees included Platinum Producer Roccstar, DJ Hed, Actor Darris Love, Actor and Comedian Torrei Hart, and Hip Hop Artist G Perico, along with Councilwoman Dionne Faulk, Councilman Eloy Morales, City Clerk Aisha Thompson, and City Treasurer Angela Allen. Their presence underscored the broad support for the cause and the community’s shared commitment to rebuilding and recovery.
Mayor Butts reflected on the event, stating, “Inglewood is a city defined by resilience and compassion. This concert is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a greater purpose.”
As We Play Studios celebrated its grand opening, it solidified its role as a hub for creativity and collaboration, while the event itself highlighted the strength of the Inglewood community. With music, unity, and purpose at its core, the benefit concert left a lasting impact, proving once again that Inglewood stands together in times of need.
