Teachers at Sequoia and Redwood Middle Schools are doing great things!

Exciting things are happening all over CVUSD. Congrats to 2 middle school teachers for winning grant money to start the year off great!

At Sequoia, Music teacher Tina Huang received funding to buy essential instructional supplies for the brand-new strings class. These students will have the benefit of new bows, rosins, tuners, and music stands.

 

At Redwood, 8th grade teacher Laura Detweiler will purchase common core resource books  for Social Science and Language Arts.

Highlights of 2012-2013: Redwood Middle School

At Redwood Middle School, teacher Leslie Martinez put a donated, gently used iPad to very good use. Students are extremely motivated to read and excited to use some new educational apps! Ms. Martinez will use grant money to buy another gently used iPad.

Spring grants continue…

3rd grade teacher Stephanie Lopez at Ladera Elementary received a grant for science.

Ms. Lopez’s students will visit the California Science Center and Endeavour Space Shuttle this spring.

 

Cheryl Babcock, 5th grade teacher at Maple Elementary, received a grant for video equipement.

Ms. Babcock’s class will enjoy using a flip camera to capture oral presentations in language arts, math, social studies, and science.

 

Teacher Leslie Martinez of Redwood Middle School, shown with one of her 6th grade students as she received a grant to acquire gently used iPads, which will be used in reading instruction.

 

Karen Abbitt at Sequoia Middle School received a grant to purchase supplies for the math department’s annual “pi” night.

Sequoia Principal Vivian Vina and Dean of Students Jim Marshall joined us to congratulate Ms. Abbitt.

More wonderful teachers receive awards in December… “Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things!”

Redwood Middle School’s Zach Snow received a grant for a fun, interactive game activity to make Government and History come alive.

Mr. Snow’s students will participate in the Star Power game to illustrate the power of different styles of government.

 

At Sycamore Canyon Elementary School, big things are happening in 2nd grade classrooms.  Teachers Mary Catherine Shmina, Christy Arnold,  Kate Taillon, Debbie Neshek, and Lisa Anthony received a grant to fund a project that all 5 class will be doing.  Principal Josh Eby is all smiles!

These students will be mining for gold, minerals, gemstones, and fossils in a until called Pebbles, Sand and Silt.  This deserves a big “thumbs up!”

 

At Maple Elementary School, Patricia VanOmmerman’s 4th grade students will also mine for gold!  Principal Juan Santos joins the photo op.

Grant money wil enable these student sto have an on-site field trip presented by Camino Real Naturalists.

 

At Weathersfield Elementary, Kindergarten teachers Bill McGovern, Lynn Quick, and Concie Bringas teamed up to win a grant for their classrooms.

These teachers will use grant money to bring Reading awakens Young Scientists (RAYS) to their students.  this is an interdisciplinary program which incorporates reading with science and technology.

January 2012 Grant Winners!

Linda Moore’s 6th grade students will be learning about Ancient Greece this spring.  Grant money will be used to purchase class sets of new books and students will participate in a variety of hands on activities.

 

Amanda Haver, 5th grade teacher at Aspen Elementary School, receives a grant to fund science projects

Ms. Haver’s students will be conducting inquiry based science projects with supplies purchased with Cash 4 Conejo Classrooms grant money.

 

Redwood Middle School teacher Trudi Babich receives a grant in the wood shop

Trudi Babich will guide her students in the process of designing and creating dynamic automata, or kinetic sculptures.  The possibilities are endless … and all are very exciting!

 

Ladera 3rd grade teacher Constance Cordiero-Weidner receives a grant for her Conejo Valley scrapbook project

Ms. Cordeira-Weidner’s students will be making scrapbooks about the Conejo Valley.  This project spans multiple subject areas including language arts and social science as  students learn about the history of our community.  Ms. Weidner will share her resources with all 3rd grade teachers at Ladera.
