Let’s meet LA native Chanda Tresvant, aka Trapanese , who grew up in a creative household alongside her twin sister, younger brother, and older sister. From an early age, she pursued the performing arts, attending a specialized school where she participated in plays and talent shows. During high school, she trained with acting coach Betty Bridges, refining her skills every Saturday.

Following graduation, Tresvant established a social media presence under “Trapanesechik,” a handle that quickly gained recognition. As her online following grew, a director contacted her to appear in a music video, which later aired on MTV. This, of course, brought more opportunities, with multiple directors reaching out for collaborations.

As she rose through the ranks in the music video industry, Tresvant shifted her focus to music. Teaming up with producer Mecca, she recorded her debut single, Why They Actin’, kicking off a transition from video appearances to a career as a recording artist. The release grabbed media attention, allowing her to share her journey and goals.

In 2021, Tresvant expanded into fashion, making her runway debut at The Global Film Festival, a televised event in China that led to bookings for fashion shows, adding a new layer to her career.

Chanda Trapanese Tresvant - Pop That Artwork

Tresvant continues developing her music while preparing for upcoming projects and tour dates. Her most recent single, “Pop That,” is now available for download or streaming!

Chanda Tresvant weighed in on a few things for us!

Growing Up in LA: How did your experiences in a performing arts school in Los Angeles shape your passion for the entertainment industry?

Growing up, going to performing arts school helped sharpen my skills because I played the trumpet in the orchestra in elementary school, and the trumpet helps singers strengthen their vocals! Also, I was in acting classes in elementary, middle, and high school! So it helped me get practice in acting and helped me perform in large crowds!!

The Stage and Screen: What was it like learning from acting coach Betty Bridges during high school, and how did it influence your career?

Being in Betty Bridges’ class helped me work on my skills for the big screen. She taught me that it’s not about your talent in this Business; it’s about who you know!

Social Media Persona: Can you tell us how the name “Trapanesechik” came about and how it helped you build your brand?

Who I am on social media is who I am in real life. It was no persona, and someone stole my name, Trapanese, so I had to go by “Trapanesechik,” but that’s been my second name my whole life outside of my real name, Chanda! Trapanese came about. My family called me that, but some girl at work told me to go by that seriously!! Because I was hustling

Breakthrough Moment: How did appearing in the music video for “Everybody in the Club Getting Shot” by Father change your career trajectory?

When I appeared in the Father Music video, it inspired me to believe that I could really live this Hollywood life! I was born and raised in California. I didn’t want to miss these opportunities when they were presented, so I kept going!

Transitioning Roles for Chanda Tresvant: What motivated your shift from being a “video girl” to pursuing a music career, and how did the collaboration with your first producer, Mecca, come about?

Being a video girl was just my way of trying to get into the door, but I was doing music ever since I could talk, so it was always going to happen

Fashion Forward: You were part of “The Global Film Festival” fashion show aired in China. How did walking the runway influence your career and creativity?

Walking the runway was a very fun experience, and it boosted my confidence to know how to pose and work the cameras, which is very important as an artist

The Chanda Tresvant Musical Journey: What challenges have you faced in the music industry while transitioning from video appearances to being a recognized artist?

Me being a model /video girl was a challenge because the music industry would treat you like you’re promiscuous!!! And there will be men in competition with you ! Because you’re a rapper !

New Releases: Please tell us more about your recent single, “Pop That,” and your vision for making it a summer anthem.

Pop that came out in the summertime, and everything was styled by me, and idk I just wanted a fun, exciting song, so it was just how I was feeling at the moment

Future Endeavors: What can fans expect from your upcoming tour and any new projects you’re excited to share?

Stay tuned and watch my social media for any upcoming shows! I have plenty of new features that have yet to be released, so stay tuned!

Inspiration and Influence: Who are some of your biggest influences in music and fashion, and how do they inspire your work today?

My biggest influences were Lil Wayne, Trina, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Toni Braxton, TLC, Selena, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, and Kanye West! In modeling, it was Kimora Lee Simmons because she had her own clothing line and was a model!! And I liked Janice Dickinson!! They all inspire me for different reasons!

In a city where the hustle never stops, WhiteBoyCellz is making waves. His recent single, “Loose Skrew,” has surpassed an impressive milestone with over 1 million streams. A defining moment in his career, and it is only a matter of time before he takes his place among the greats as an up-and-coming artist.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, he has always been deeply connected to the city’s pulse. From the vibrant streets of his hometown to the music he creates, his sound reflects a unique blend of influences—from the energy of the urban landscape to the raw emotion of his personal experiences. As an artist, producer, and songwriter, he is a true creative force, shaping his career on his terms.

When it comes to describing his style, he doesn’t box himself into one category. He is an artist for all seasons, creating a sound that fuses elements of hip-hop, rap, and beyond. “I’m a wave,” he says with confidence. “Up-tempo, fly sh*t, lyric flowing, hard-hitting, wavy. That’s me.” His tracks are infused with an energy that can get any crowd moving, blending bounce with lyricism in a way that feels both fresh and familiar.

Despite the ever-changing trends in music, his unique approach stands out. His lyrics flow seamlessly, his beats hit hard, and his overall vibe is undeniable. Whether you are listening in your car, at a party, or on your headphones, his sound commands attention.

His music journey began at the age of 11 when he first started rapping. But it was not until a few years ago that he decided to take his craft more seriously, diving into both producing and writing. The result? A rapidly growing fanbase and tracks that are becoming viral hits like, “Loose Skrew.”

Hitting the million-stream mark is no small accomplishment, and he is using this success as a springboard to greater heights. “Loose Skrew” captures his raw energy and showcases his ability to tap into the struggles and triumphs of everyday life. The track resonates with listeners across the globe, reflecting the kind of authentic storytelling that has been the hallmark of his rise.

For him, music is not just a career, it is a way of life. “Whenever I’m going through something, I paint it in a song,” he says. That connection to his own experiences and the world around him is what fuels his passion. His inspiration comes from the urban streets of Los Angeles, his journey, and the people he meets along the way. In his eyes, the community and the lifestyle he has lived are what gives his music its soul. He is not just making art for himself, he is telling the stories of those around him.

His biggest motivation, though, is not a celebrity or an iconic mentor—it is life itself. The challenges he has faced, the lessons learned, and the resilience to keep pushing forward have shaped the artist he has become. “Everything I went through in life molded me into who I am,” he says. It is clear that he is not just creating music for the masses, he is speaking his truth, and the world is listening.

When asked who he looks up to in the industry, he names a few giants: Kendrick Lamar, Babyface Ray, and Suga Free. These artists have left their marks in the industry, and their influence can be heard in his music, whether it is in his lyrical delivery or his ability to weave intricate wordplay into tracks.

For him, it is not just about following in the footsteps of others, it is about making his mark. His vision for his music career is ambitious and clear. He strives to be the next big thing, to take his sound global, and to change the narrative of his community. “I want to make more millionaires out of my district,” he says, embodying the spirit of a leader who is not just focused on his success, but on lifting others with him.

The journey has not been without its comparisons. Fans and critics alike have drawn parallels between WhiteBoyCellz and iconic figures like Nipsey Hussle and Kendrick Lamar. With his wordplay, delivery, and authenticity, it’s no surprise that his music reminds listeners of these legends. But even as the comparisons roll in, he is quick to point out what makes him stand out: “I got the wave, influence, and the people. They look up to me.”

Being an independent artist gives him the freedom to navigate his career on his terms, but that has not stopped major labels from taking notice. Though he has had meetings with labels, he is currently still doing it all independently, something that only adds to his authenticity. He is in control of his narrative, from the music to the merch, the fashion, and even the design of his brand. It’s all part of the bigger picture.

Looking ahead, WhiteBoyCellz is ready for the next chapter of his career. He is gearing up to release his first full-length album, something his fans have been eagerly anticipating. And it is not just about the music. He is working on expanding his brand with new merchandise, upcoming tours, and giving fans everything they’ve been asking for.

“I’m giving them everything they want,” he promises. “The people are going to get the experience.”

If you haven’t already checked out WhiteBoyCellz, now is the time to tune in. His music is available on all streaming platforms, ready to be added to your playlist. As he continues to rise, it’s clear that this is just the beginning for WhiteBoyCellz. With the world at his feet and a sound that’s undeniably his own, the future is looking incredibly bright.

Stay tuned—this artist is going global.

Hip-hop is constantly evolving, but Lyrical Chris, a rising star in the genre, is leading a movement that could redefine its future with what he calls “5D Rap.” His debut album, Prewrite, released in September 2024, is the first-ever 5D Rap album, introducing a new, spiritually conscious sound focused on positivity, empowerment, and universal connection.

Hailing from Tifton, Georgia, and now based in Jacksonville, Lyrical Chris has set out to break away from the typical themes of materialism and explicit content, instead crafting music that uplifts, educates, and inspires. His 5D Rap is designed for everyone—regardless of age, race, religion, or orientation—creating an inclusive and transformative listening experience.

What Is 5D Rap?

5D Rap draws from metaphysical and spiritual ideas, with “5D” referring to a higher plane of consciousness beyond the material world. Chris’s mission is to bring forward hip-hop that resonates on this higher vibrational level, using motivational and educational messages rather than the toxicity that can often plague mainstream music. With songs like “5D Rap Rules” and “R.I.P. Parental Advisory,” Lyrical Chris is laying the foundation for a more mindful and positive future in rap music.

Chris’s journey to 5D Rap is deeply rooted in his upbringing. Influenced by legendary artists like Nas, Lupe Fiasco, and Common, along with the inspiration he drew from his older brother, Farinzio, he developed a unique lyrical style that blends intricate bars with profound messages. His artistic vision goes beyond entertainment; it’s about nourishing the mind, body, and spirit.

This innovative approach has already garnered attention, with Chris landing Billboard chart placements and making waves in the industry. He has even secured regular rotation in over 4,000 gyms across the United States, further solidifying his presence in the music scene.

With his self-released singles under his imprint, iSoulated, and a feature on Amada Records’ Hip Hop Chronicles, Lyrical Chris is steadily building a discography that signals he’s here to stay. As he mixed and mastered Prewrite himself, treating the recording process as a multi-step editorial endeavor, he ensures each track aligns with his vision for 5D Rap.

As 2025 approaches, Lyrical Chris and his 5D Rap movement are poised to shape the future of hip-hop in profound new ways. Could 5D Rap be the genre’s next big leap? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: Lyrical Chris is an artist to watch.

Lil Prince Charmin’ has been charming his way into the hearts of all generations since the age of 4 years when he began doing Covers of the King of Soul James Brown until he later turned his focus to the King of Pop Michael Jackson. He has since been Rockin’ stages all over the globe since age 6 with a plethora of New Orleans talent including Tucka King of Swing, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr., Dwayne Dopsie, Gina Brown, Hot Boy Ronald, Rob49, and T99zy. Lil’ Prince was even invited as a featured performer at the James Brown Birthday Bash in Augusta Ga. by Mr. Bootsy Collins.

Lil Prince Charmin opened for Tamar Braxton and Boosie Badazz at the Westbank Heritage Festival as well as teaming up with DJ Spin, Alvin Juggie McMillan Jr, Partners-N-Crime, DJ Jubilee, and Baby Boy da Prince for the Friends of Choppa Showcase in honor of Choppa Style at Nola’s Fried Chicken Festival.

Now at age 12, Lil Prince Charmin’ is a producer, recording artist writing his own rhymes and music, musical animation creator, and phenomenal live entertainer on a mission to becoming known as the positive vibe so desperately needed for our youth…. And proving that chivalry is back! He cares, he dares and he shares his out of the box creativity and talent in an overwhelmingly dedicated fashion with a tapestry of songs that keeps you moving’.

What made you choose the music industry? What made you first want to be an entertainer?

I wanted to join the music industry because I have a great love for music. And what made me know that I want to do this for the rest of my life was my first performance at 4 years old at the La Palo.

And what kind of performance was it?

I performed James Brown’s Out of Sight.

And you were four. Cool! I know that you are a huge James Brown fan and Michael Jackson fan but who are your big influences now?

Well, besides those two, I would add  Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne.

When did you start producing your own music? And what made you even think you could do it?

I started writing at 9. But producing not really so much of that. I made beats before. When I go to the studio it’s mostly to tell the producer I know what I want.

Yeah. In your head. You hear it. Where do you want to be in 5 years? With your career or your life?

On top!

On top! I like that answer!

Do you recall a moment that changed the whole entire trajectory of your life?

A moment that changed my life would probably have to be when I was 2 years old. Watching the James Brown Get on Up movie. That probably changed my life forever. It made me have a love for music. A love for James Brown. I eventually moved on to Michael Jackson. Because James Brown influenced Michael Jackson, so those are my two favorites right there.

What advice would you give someone say your age even younger who wants to do what you do?

Never give up. Always stay positive. Don’t listen to the negative.

Now you do something a little different than a lot of rappers. You keep it positive. You’re not talking about killing people or getting even with someone’s girlfriend, stuff like that. Why do you do that? Because it’s brilliant. But why do you do that when you could do anything you want?

I’m trying to change the world through my love. My love for music. My love for a different style. My music and my dance. Spread love.

If you are in front of a stadium of let’s say 25,000 people, how would you react? Would you be nervous? Would you just go for it?

I will just give it my all.

Is there anything that you want to ask me that might help you?

How to get signed and stuff like that.

I saw your animations they were amazing. Do you want to tie that in? You already have tied it in with your music.

As you know I have a love for cartoon characters like Sonic, Mario, and stuff like that. I have little characters that I film that help with my production directing and editing.

I want to ask you what you want to be when you grow up, but I feel like you’re all grown up already. Do you want to be in the movies? Is that something you would want to do?

Yes, but before I do all that good stuff I like to get some good training first.

Are you training in anything right now like vocal training or anything?

Yes, I am.

Good for you. You already are a superstar but you’re going to be like a superstar that everyone knows. So, I’m not really worried about you. There’s nothing I could say to you to tell you well do this a little better or that a little better. You’re good with the answers and you’re really smart. Are you smart in school?

Of course.

So Mom, how does it feel having a child that’s a superstar?

I’m not even going to lie sometimes it’s overwhelming. But that’s my baby and I love him to death. He got a DM from Mr Bootsy Collins today. He’s throwing his birthday bash and he wants Little Prince there.

Johnny Sam Hall, frontman of the Nashville-based band Johnny Sam Hall And His Big Bad Wolves, isn’t your typical rock and roller. With deep-rooted influences from bands like Social Distortion, Stevie Ray Vaughan, AC/DC, and Blackfoot, Johnny’s music is a blend of raw energy and soulful storytelling that harkens back to rock’s golden era. Growing up in the heart of country music, he chose to carve his own path, leaning into gritty, honest rock and roll rather than following the trends.

Johnny’s sound can be best described as unapologetic, with a style that refuses to adhere to any one genre. “We only play what we like, genre be damned,” he says, reflecting the band’s dedication to authenticity. Their latest album, “Dialogue Between Death and The Sinner,” embodies this spirit. Johnny describes the record as “hearing a rock and roll record in the middle of a fever dream.” It’s a chaotic yet carefully crafted journey through themes of mortality, sin, and redemption. The album isn’t just music—it’s an experience, one that feels like a vivid hallucination, where the lines between reality and imagination blur.

When it comes to his creative process, Johnny is driven by the spontaneous. “I write what comes naturally,” he explains. His inspiration is often sparked by old movie samples or classic literature, adding depth and layers to his already complex sound. Johnny’s music is meant to be honest, and that’s the message he hopes listeners take away—authenticity in every note, every lyric, and every performance.

Despite the rock star lifestyle, Johnny stays connected with fans through his social media, where he frequently posts ads for the band’s music and creative rock-and-roll twists on popular songs. It’s his way of staying engaged with a diverse fan base that spans generations, from young rockers to seasoned veterans of the music scene. After every show, fans of all ages approach Johnny and the band, further proving that their music resonates on a universal level.

For Johnny Sam Hall And His Big Bad Wolves, the future holds one clear goal: living and dying by the music. They’re not in it for the fame but for the love of the craft. “We want to do this full-time, for life,” Johnny says with conviction. With out-of-state gigs and growing recognition, that dream is well within reach. For Johnny and his Wolves, rock and roll isn’t just a genre; it’s a way of life.

Behind every successful athlete is a human with a unique upbringing and history. For Kieran Kichuk—a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master—the competitions, medals, and big wins only tell part of his story. What truly defines him is his journey of dedication, deeply held principles, and personal growth that have guided him throughout his time in the sport.

After being born in Hamilton, Ontario, Kichuk and his family moved to San Diego when he was still an infant. They spent five years there before returning to Canada and settling in Markham, Ontario, and this is where Kieran Kichuk grew up.

In 2009, at just 13 years old, his athletic path took a turn after watching Georges St-Pierre, a French-Canadian athlete, dominate the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Something about St-Pierre’s skills caught the attention of Kichuk.

It wasn’t just the sheer power of mixed martial arts (MMA) that interested him or the fact that he felt a sense of pride watching someone like St-Pierre do so well in front of the whole world. Rather, it was the technique behind the fight, and, more specifically, the way grappling could seemingly control the outcome.

His fascination grew over time, and eventually, he found himself chasing Jiu-Jitsu at full speed, pouring all of his time and effort into learning more about it and becoming skilled at it.

It was more than just another sport, but something that would become his lifelong passion. Kichuk felt confident that he could achieve greatness in the sport—and for Canada—so long as he had the right work ethic, and this belief is what has taken him far in his career thus far.

Family Support Has Helped Kichuk Succeed

Kichuk’s family has shaped who he is, both as a person and an athlete. He and his three siblings were never pushed into sports, but staying active was still a big part of life for them. Family traditions, like running together, taught Kichuk values like perseverance and discipline from a young age.

Growing up, Kichuk looked up to his father, a former NCAA Division 1 track athlete. His father’s dedication to track and field inspired Kichuk to follow in his footsteps, eventually leading him to join the track and field club at school. There, he competed in regional and provincial meets, specializing in the 1500-meter run and cross country.

Even though Kichuk loved the sport, it was pushed to the side as soon as he discovered Jiu-Jitsu. He quit the track and field club, joining the school wrestling team instead. While his father’s track background inspired Kichuk’s early sports choices, it was his mother, Susan Kichuk, who taught him the importance of balance and perseverance.

He’s carried these principles into his life, being guided by them both in and outside of his athletic career. He understands that success in life and sports means little if you don’t stay loyal to your core values and the people who have helped you along the way.

For Kichuk, success isn’t just measured by money, medals, or titles. He believes in treating others the way they treat him and his closest people, valuing relationships above all. His mother showed him that success at work is important, but it’s nothing without success at home.

Kichuk has found that when you prioritize family, everything else tends to fall into place. His strong commitment to family has helped him stay true to his values even as his career grows.

Kieran Kichuk—Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master

Perseverance is at the Forefront of Kichuk’s Career

Of the defining moments in Kichuk’s career, few come close to rivaling the day he earned his black belt. For Kichuk, getting his black belt wasn’t just an achievement, but the result of twelve grueling years of consistent hard work. During these years, he showed up day after day, pushing through challenges and steadily improving. His black belt means a lot to him because it’s a reflection of his perseverance, especially during the hardest times.

While most people today look for instant gratification, Kichuk knows that life doesn’t always work this way. He sees the value in patience and knows from firsthand experience that real progress happens on a steady path. He has learned that improvement doesn’t come from quick bursts of passion or talent but from consistent effort over longer periods of time.

As an old-school athlete, Kichuk holds a deep respect for the grind. He’s seen naturally gifted athletes fail to reach their potential because they didn’t put in the work. However, he’s also seen people who are less athletically inclined push through defeat after defeat and come out on top.

These stories inspire him, reminding him that talent can only take you so far. For Kichuk, what truly matters is a person’s willingness to put in the time and effort it takes to succeed, especially when it gets hard. The challenges he’s faced both on and off the mat have taught him to take a balanced approach to life and career, making him more resilient in the face of difficulties.

Learning to Enjoy the Growth Process

Kichuk’s love for Jiu-Jitsu goes beyond the training and competitions. Rather than trying to learn more about mixed martial arts (MMA), he was drawn to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu because it offers endless potential for growth.

The technical nuances of submission grappling, especially his favorite technique, the Triangle Choke, keep him hooked on the sport. For Kichuk, the triangle choke isn’t just a technique—it’s a way to challenge himself to master the little details.

He’s shown that it can be applied from different positions, and it fuels his drive to keep perfecting the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Where Kichuk finds the most satisfaction is in the daily grind of learning and improving, and of being efficient and effective.

While winning competitions matters, it isn’t what keeps Kichuk going. The daily process of becoming the best version of himself is. Instead of chasing the next medal, he enjoys the practice and the small victories that come with mastering the sport.

Balancing Daily Life With Jiu-Jitsu

Even though Kichuk is fully committed to Jiu-Jitsu, balance is still key. For him, success in his sport isn’t just about being physically prepared, but also about mental and emotional well-being.

Taking time to be with family gives Kichuk the motivation to inch forward and overcome whatever challenges come his way. It’s his way of making sure he’s in the right mindset for both life and competition.

Kichuk also knows that finding joy in the process of improvement, both personally and professionally, is what ultimately encourages his growth.

Beyond fueling his mind with sleep and his body with healthy food, Kichuk finds ways to give back to his community. He donates equipment to Project X-Guard, a Toronto-based program that provides martial arts training to underprivileged and behaviorally challenged children.

It’s a way for him to live out the values he learned from his family, by helping others who might not have the same opportunities he did.

Kieran Kichuk Stays True to His Roots On and Off the Mat

For Kichuk, success is about the relationships he builds and the personal growth he experiences along the way. His family has always been a big part of his journey, but he’s also been shaped by mentors like Fernando Zulick and Steve Lin, who he trained under. Their guidance and his family’s support have seen him through some major milestones—like winning the Canadian National Championship and placing in the Pan-Am Championships all three times.

Kieran Kichuk’s journey in Jiu-Jitsu has always been about more than just winning matches or earning titles. Staying true to the values he grew up with—loyalty, perseverance, and reciprocity—is also important. Inspired by his father’s dedication to athletics and his mother’s ability to find a healthy work-life balance, Kichuk carries those lessons with him every day, both on and off the mat.

As he looks to the future, Kichuk is committed to growing not just as an athlete but also as a person, no matter what challenges or opportunities are next. There’s still a lot ahead for him, and he’s ready for whatever is ahead, always staying connected to the values that have shaped his life.

Education is often argued to be one of the most important fields of study, practice, and leadership in the country, as its mandate is to guide, develop, and encourage the next generation of leaders, artists, and citizens. Unfortunately, despite the importance of educators and the schools in which they work, the resources allocated to education are rarely evenly distributed, and that can lead to certain districts and schools being forced to operate in a state of structural inequality.

Dr. Deborah Darbonne has spent her career successfully leading educational institutions, with a special passion for closing educational achievement gaps and advocating for social justice in the educational system. For over 30 years, Deborah Darbonne has led academically fragile Title I schools to high academic achievement despite the challenges posed by widespread poverty in those communities. Through her data-driven decision-making and empowering leadership style, Dr. Darbonne has turned transforming low-performing schools into thriving learning environments into her professional calling card.

Leadership Philosophy

Dr. Darbonne’s personal leadership style and approach to decision-making are major contributors to her success as an educator and an administrator. Given the moniker “Leader of Learners” by her peers, she puts great stock in empowering teachers to guide the academic growth of her students. She understands that educators have the power to make a difference both in and outside of the classroom, and she encourages educators to advocate for their charges.

Dr. Deborah Darbonne holds that three qualities are crucial for any effective leader: integrity, empathy, and vision. A leader who isn’t trustworthy, reliable, or consistent isn’t going to be followed; if someone doesn’t have the integrity to do the right thing even when nobody’s watching, then they shouldn’t lead. Empathy is essential for any leader, but it is especially true in an educational context; Dr. Darbonne and her staff all interact with students regularly, making clear communication even more critical. By modeling clear human connection and care, Dr. Darbonne can lead by example as much as she leads through her decision-making.

Dr. Darbonne’s vision has always been to improve the academic environment for the students in her care. It’s a vision rooted in her empathy and personal experiences and has led to consistent positive results across the districts and schools she’s worked in.

Personal Values and Commitments

Dr. Deborah Darbonne has always been focused on being a career educator, but that focus is rooted in her strong personal values and commitments. Dr. Darbonne dove headfirst into educational leadership after being particularly inspired by a prior student’s appreciation for her guidance and being faced with the opportunity to improve the academic lives and opportunities of students.

Dr. Darbonne’s experiences have created a firm conviction for equity and social justice advocacy in the education system. A child of immigrant parents herself and one familiar with the inequalities and challenges faced by students of varying backgrounds, Dr. Darbonne understands how hard it can be to achieve academically amid myriad challenges. Part of that same conviction is a dedication to being a lifelong learner, which feeds back into her leadership skills and passion for education overall.

“I’ve always believed in the power of knowledge, not just in acquiring it but in sharing it as well,” she says. “This mindset has allowed me to stay ahead of trends and adapt to the ever-changing educational landscape. This continuous growth not only sharpens my skills but also equips me to lead others effectively, inspiring them to pursue their growth.”

Collaborative Leadership and Effective Decision-Making

One of the marks of an effective leader is the efficacy of their decision-making. For Dr. Deborah Darbonne, effective decision-making revolves around clarity, empathy, and reflection. Having a clear understanding of the given situation, its impact, and the desired outcome sets the stage for solutions to be constructed and analyzed. Part of that analysis is considering how any decision made will affect others in Dr. Darbonne’s care, be it staff, students, or the general community. Regardless of the decision, it’s important to look back on what was done, examine the outcomes, and constantly learn from them.

“Balancing these elements helps me make decisions that are not only sound but also considerate and forward-thinking,” Dr. Darbonne says

For an administrator, the efficacy of any decision is partly reliant on the staff and team acting upon it. Any new projects, initiatives, or development plans in an organization are definitionally collaborative works, and thus, maintaining strong professional relationships is another critical component of leadership. It starts with genuine communication.

“I make it a priority to be open, honest, and approachable with my colleagues and mentors,” Dr. Darbonne explains. “I strive to show appreciation for the people around me, acknowledging their contributions and celebrating their successes. Regular check-ins, formal or informal help me stay connected and reinforce the bonds we’ve built over time.

Motivation, Growth Tracking, and Goal Setting

Like many of her students, Dr. Darbonne utilizes the SMART criteria for setting and achieving goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Broad, undefined goals suffer from scope creep and a lack of urgency, which can be demotivating and uninspiring—not conducive to productivity. Setting goals with this framework encourages Dr. Darbonne and her staff to take actionable steps in a defined time frame to get things done neatly and efficiently. Paired with a planner and a suite of digital tools like Microsoft Outlook, this system has proven effective at setting and meeting goals in the workplace.

“It’s about staying focused but also being flexible enough to pivot when needed,” she says

Keeping her team (and herself) motivated starts with the work environment. Dr. Darbonne can cultivate shared growth and community by building a positive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to feel valued and heard. She says, “I also encourage open communication, where team members can share ideas and feedback without fear of judgment.”

JReal Da Realest

This is a much-awaited introduction to international recording artist, actor, author, father, and CEO of ChainGangWest Consulting Jerell Walker Aka JReal Da Realest of Los Angeles California. For more than 20 years, I’ve watched this young lion grow, sometimes in the same household and sometimes, as now, from afar. I promise this intro is not due to nepotism, it’s because I’ve watched a man grow from a spiritually unalive horizontal to an upright perpendicular, to coin a mystic phrase. Check my record, I’ve interviewed or covered just about everybody, their cat, uncle, AND dog, and short of some of the industry OGs and stalwarts, oftentimes the stories sound rehearsed or unfinished with key connectors lost in the telling…you know, the math doesn’t necessarily math…ijs. I’m validating this one personally but the time had to be right and the moves solidified…here we go!

The Power of the Pen

Every story has a benchmark that makes it need telling, and the story of this dynamic multi-hyphenate, Jerrell Walker, holds to that fact. After the sudden death of his care provider Grandmother, Jerell struggled with the process of grief whilst dealing with the upheaval of being placed in (D.C.S.F) Foster care. With a lack of guidance, he started to associate and affiliate himself with the 52nd Hoover Street Gang. After years of unresolved pain and misplaced aggression, this harsh environment and a series of unconsidered decisions, left him shot 5 times, homeless and alone.

With most of his options fading and seeking a way out, his seemingly last ditch was to pick up a pen and paper. Could creativity be his redemption? Had he found his answers in writing? Could this be his escape from dealing with the daily trials and opposition found in South Central LA?

JReal Da Realest put work clothes on what remained of his dreams to break his bonds, both internal and external. The result of his reflection, facing his demons, and fighting away excuses that would allow him the leisure of becoming just another negative statistic, JReal exercised the grey muscle, organized the detritus of his journey, and captured it in a poignant collection of riffs entitled Land Of No Pity: A South Central Story which touched down in 2020. The book is available and in stock on Amazon in paperback, or a free digital version is available for Kindle Ultimate subscribers. The book’s reviewers landed the missive at 4.4 on the rating scale…a nice accomplishment for this first-time self-published author

Jerell P Walker - Land Of No Pity - book cover

While there’s always a backstory, JReal, a working man, father, and entrepreneur, serves up periodic affirmation videos with positive “…phrases that can help build self-confidence and self-esteem, and can help you cope with negative thoughts. They can also help you attract good things into your life.” From the outside looking in, if taken on the surface, they’re just an addition to the positive conversations going on daily from people who are talking from theory…but JReal is different and you can tell in his signature baritone, he’s sharing survival ammunition for the mental self, you know, the one that has many with imposter syndrome doubting their own achievements and value. I’ve dropped his most recent below, feel free to let us know your thoughts! You can follow along via his YouTube, as well!

On the music tip, JReal Da Realest has some treasures coming our way with OG’s from the West Coast rap game, and some fly *ish dropping shortly tapping that Chi-Town x LA energy with the one and only Gentleman of Leisure, Legendary Baller on September 18th. This one is fun and quick-witted as one would expect from this charismatic Manager of Hxes, Hip Hop artist since 1958 Black belt in the art of PIMP Hand! But don’t get it twisted JReal is that heavy hitter that blends right in with his undeniable delivery of lyrical missiles on the track laced by @twin4twin_beats and mixed by @mdrnsean.

Dig the teaser below!

For a bit more on the musical style and growth, you can catch JReal Da Realist in the mix below and stay tuned for our exclusive live session interview coming soon…there’s only one way this is gonna go as we stomp through this maze and hit these dips…

MUSIC is a perennial artform that has been around for several millennia. In each era, we as mankind have always relied on this remarkable artform to enable us to “feel” and to be “expressive”. Whether it is igniting “euphoria” or simply fostering “grief”, music often allows us to convey our innermost feelings. In many cases, music also plays a pivotal role in influencing the overall mood and demeanor of the listener. This in turn bestows such a monumental responsibility on artists to be conscious of how their music may positively or negatively impact their audience. Unfortunately, very few artists nowadays are cognizant of this and even fewer artists embrace this responsibility. However, there are still a few exemplary artists who not only embrace this responsibility but actually desire it! One such artist is the tremendously gifted and multi-award-winning IRENE MICHAELS

Irene Michaels

Irene wholeheartedly understands the sheer power and impact that music can have on listeners. At its finest, music can exude positive emotions of hope, motivation, encouragement, and love. On the contrary, music can also inhibit positive emotions and incite feelings synonymous with anger, sorrow, and immorality! The knowledge of this is a major component behind the style of music Irene puts out. She’s inherently geared towards creating pulsating music that is both uplifting and entertaining in nature. Her music provides a beautiful blend between “good substance” and “entertainment”. Songs such as “What the World Needs Now” truly typify what Irene stands for! Throughout this uptempo and melodious pop song, Irene encourages her audience to be more LOVING and CARING while impressively retaining a captivating rhythmic flow from start to finish!

Over the past few years, the songstress has been the architect of numerous masterpieces. One of her most recent gems is the riveting hit single known as “I LIKE RAIN“. This song has it all! The vocals are impeccable, the visuals are stunning, the melody is remarkable and of course, the creativity is simply unmatched. Above all, the hook “I Like Rain” is both playful and irresistibly catchy! Factoring in all this, it should come as no surprise that the hit single notched up the 2023 Josie Award for “Pop Single Song of the Year”. 2023 would prove to be a massive year for Irene as she dropped yet another instant classic with “What the World Needs Now”. It would certainly be an understatement to say she was on fire throughout 2023. That said, the preceding year was just as impressive if not more! In 2022, the musical sensation mesmerized her audience with a plethora of hits as well as some eye-catching LIVE performances. One of her standout showcases that year, was her stunning performance at “Le Piano”, which garnered widespread admiration from fans and peers alike.

When listening to just about anything this songstress puts out, it becomes very evident why she has been the recipient of quite a few prestigious music awards. Not only did she receive the aforementioned “2023 Josie Award” but she has been nominated for it yet again in 2024. This time round, the nomination is for an even bigger accolade which is the “2024 Josie Award Artist of The Year (Pop/Dance/Contemporary)“. In addition to this, Irene has also emerged as a strong candidate for a Grammy Award nomination.

Aside from Pop, Irene Michaels has also won the “Get Out Award for House Music Artist of the Year”! Her musical fluidity and versatility are often showcased by the ability she has to seamlessly incorporate other genres in her songs. She also does a sublime job of mixing the traditional Pop sound with a dash of contemporary flair which makes her music appealing to a variety of listeners regardless of age group. Moreover, her music permeates conventional genres, ethnic boundaries, racial lines and genders. She is quite simply a breath of fresh air

Dance is a powerful form of expression that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries, captivating hearts and stirring emotions through movement. It connects people to their deepest feelings and to each other, creating a shared experience that resonates across diverse communities. Among those who embody this art form is Gion Treichler, a Swiss dancer whose career began in the scenic city of Zürich

Throughout his illustrious career, Gion has left an indelible mark on the dance community, captivating audiences worldwide with his versatility and artistry. His journey from the historic stages of Zürich to the vibrant dance scene of New York City, and most recently Indianapolis, showcases a commitment to exploring and mastering a diverse repertoire. Working with luminaries such as Caroline Finn, Filipe Portugal, Regina Van Berkel, and Nadav Zelner, Gion has demonstrated a remarkable ability to transition seamlessly between various dance styles, earning him acclaim in both contemporary and classical ballet circles.

Embarking on a path less traveled

Now an established dancer, Gion initially honed his skills in classical ballet. His artistic horizons dramatically broadened following a transformative encounter with contemporary dance, which deepened and diversified his expressive capabilities. Recalling a pivotal performance at Ballett Zürich, Gion describes the moment that reshaped his perspective: “Witnessing dancers express themselves in ways I’d never imagined ignited a fire within me to explore beyond the traditional confines of ballet.” This experience marked the beginning of his journey into diverse dance styles, fueled further by the global perspectives he encountered through social media. “It was like peering through a window into a world of endless possibilities, where every style, every movement told a unique story,” he notes, highlighting how digital exposure to global dance forms profoundly influenced his approach.

A great eye-opener in Gion’s exploration of dance diversity came during his college years when he discovered the Graham technique. The technique’s emphasis on raw emotion and powerful movement captivated him, drawing him deeply into the world of expressive dance. “The raw emotion, the power behind each movement—it was magnetic,” Gion recalls. This newfound passion led him to join Graham 2 in New York City, where he further honed his skills in contemporary dance.

Through these varied experiences, Gion has continuously sought to expand his artistic expression, embracing and integrating diverse dance styles into his repertoire. “These experiences have shaped me as an artist, teaching me to embrace diversity in dance and inspiring me to continually seek out new avenues of artistic expression,” he reflects, underscoring the significant impact of his early experiences on his career trajectory.

Embracing diversity in dance

Transitioning between diverse dance styles requires a nuanced approach, one that Gion has mastered over the years. Whether performing contemporary pieces in Indianapolis or embodying classical roles at the Zürich Opera House, his focus remains unwavering. “I strive to immerse myself completely in the moment, letting go of any distractions or preconceptions,” Gion shares. This deep engagement with each performance, coupled with rigorous preparation, allows him to deliver captivating performances that resonate with audiences.

When preparing for roles, whether contemporary or classical, Gion’s creative process revolves around a thorough immersion into the essence of the piece. This involves understanding the character and narrative behind the choreography, regardless of the dance style. “Whether I’m rehearsing for a classical role with its defined characters or delving into the abstract world of contemporary dance, my approach remains consistent,” Gion explains

He spends significant time delving into the character’s motivations and exploring the emotional nuances of the piece, which helps him connect deeply with his fellow performers on stage. “One of the most rewarding aspects of my creative process is the camaraderie and synergy that comes from connecting with my colleagues on stage,” he notes, emphasizing how this connection enhances the performance and brings the choreography to life.

Signature performances and meaningful experiences

Experiences with Dance Kaleidoscope, particularly in “New Horizon” and “Tea for Two,” have been pivotal in shaping Gion’s artistic journey. He expresses a deep connection to “Tea for Two,” a performance that allowed him to demonstrate a range of skills. “Portraying a lead role in ‘Tea for Two’ was a deeply fulfilling experience, allowing me to connect with audiences on a profound level and share in the magic of live performance.”, Gion reflects. This role not only showcased his technical abilities but also his capacity for emotive storytelling, deepening his engagement with the audience.

Similarly, “New Horizon” challenged Gion to push his boundaries both technically and artistically. He describes the production as one that required “a high level of precision and versatility,” enabling him to explore new facets of his craft. “The intricate choreography and dynamic movement sequences challenged me to push past my limits and discover new depths within my craft,” Gion explains. Each performance in the “New Horizon” series was an opportunity for discovery, reminding him of the endless possibilities dance offers for personal and artistic exploration.

Cultural influences and global perspectives

Gion’s career has spanned continents, with each location enriching his identity as a dance artist. He notes the profound impact these diverse cultural experiences have had, stating, “Dance is often hailed as a universal language, transcending linguistic barriers and uniting people from all walks of life.” Through his global engagements, Gion has developed a deep appreciation for the “rich tapestry of human expression” and the ways dance reflects our shared humanity.

“Each encounter has offered a new perspective, challenging me to expand my creative horizons and embrace the complexities of our global community,” Gion reflects. Whether it involves learning choreography rooted in ancient traditions or integrating contemporary movements with cultural nuances, he finds joy in the process of cross-cultural exchange. Ultimately, Gion’s journey underscores how embracing diversity in dance can foster connection and understanding across cultures, creating art that resonates worldwide. “By embracing diversity and celebrating our collective heritage, I believe we can create art that resonates deeply with audiences around the world,” he affirms, highlighting the universal power of dance to transcend boundaries.

Challenges in choreography

Reflecting on his time with Graham 2, Gion recounts the distinct challenges posed by performing in iconic works such as “Diversion of Angels” and the contemporary piece “Kenopsia” by Yoshito Sakuraba. He acknowledges the diversity in demands between these styles, noting, “Dancing in a classic Graham piece like ‘Diversion of Angels’ demands a deep understanding of Graham technique and a commitment to embodying its timeless elegance and emotional depth.” In contrast, “Kenopsia” required a shift to more fluid movements and an openness to innovative artistic expressions.

The challenge of navigating between these contrasting styles within the same program was significant, demanding quick transitions in both physical style and mental focus. “Navigating between these contrasting styles within the same program was undeniably challenging,” Gion shares. This duality, however, was instrumental in broadening his versatility as a dancer. He explains, “It was precisely this duality that pushed me to expand my versatility as a dancer, challenging me to adapt and excel in diverse choreographic landscapes.” By meeting the demands of each piece and leveraging his training across different dance styles, Gion was able to infuse each performance with a unique authenticity and depth, thereby enriching his craft and deepening his appreciation for the multifaceted nature of dance.

Future artistic aspirations

The future of Gion’s dance career is seen as a continuation of the rich tapestry of experiences he has garnered throughout his career. He reflects on how each collaboration with visionary choreographers and performance on esteemed platforms has shaped his artistic expression. “My career has been shaped by collaborations with visionary choreographers and performances on esteemed platforms, each one leaving an indelible mark on my artistic expression,” Gion notes. As he moves forward, his goal is not simply to grow in a traditional sense but to deepen his engagement with dance and broaden his creative horizons. “With each new choreography, I seek to delve further into the nuances of movement, finding fresh avenues for expression and pushing the boundaries of my own artistry,” he explains.

Looking ahead, Gion is “driven by a desire to inspire and mentor the next generation of dancers, sharing the wisdom and insights gleaned from my own journey to help shape the future of dance.” His commitment to nurturing young talent and contributing to the evolution of dance showcases his dedication not only to his craft but also to the broader dance community.

As Gion continues to captivate audiences with his dynamic performances, his journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of dance. His dedication to exploring a diverse repertoire and his ability to adapt to various roles reflect a deep commitment to the art form. By seamlessly transitioning between contemporary and classical ballet, Gion not only showcases his unparalleled talent but also inspires a new generation of dancers to push the boundaries of their own artistic expression.

MUSIC has long been one of the most powerful human ACTION and EMOTION proponents! Everything ranging from soft melodies to aggressive up-tempo beats can evoke raw emotion from listeners. Add to that a few well-placed lyrics and you have a “clear message” that can prompt an audience to feel or act in a certain way. Quite simply, music has the unparalleled capacity to influence people on how to think, feel, and act. Most artists are cognizant of this but tend to become indifferent towards the positive or negative impact of their music due to the allure of financial power! That said, there are a few exceptions who still place more value on the impact of their music rather than the money they can make from it. One such artist is the highly-touted “Rap & Punk” savant and Hip Hop Congress member, Mic Crenshaw.

Michael Crenshaw best known as “Mic Crenshaw” has an exemplary rap career stemming several decades. Similar to many of the greats, Crenshaw’s style of music is a direct by-product of his upbringing. Growing up, he endured it all whether it was racism, bullying, stigmatization, or simply being exposed to the dangers that loomed large in the cities he resided. Facing such challenges head-on certainly toughened Mic but it also ignited a burning desire within him to just RAP! Music offered him the platform to be expressive and convey his personal experience in a way that could inspire others who shared similar life experiences. Mic predominantly identified with both the “Punk” and “Hip Hop” music scene which culminated in his unique sound that blends the 2 cultural genres.

Initially, Mic was keen on directly combating issues such as Racism, Injustice, and Poverty. With time, however, he started to focus more on the root causes rather than the symptoms of these societal issues. It is around this exact period that Mic began to emerge as a ”Cultural Activist”. He was determined to utilize the power of music to propagate positive change within society. Mic fully understood that the sheer impact of music can permeate Political, Religious, Cultural, and Societal landscapes. This is precisely why music, if and when misused, can be weaponized especially among impressionable groups of listeners. Fortunately, artists like Mic only have the desire to use music to propel positive change and authenticity at whatever personal cost. By his admission, Mic has never been one to conform to norms or follow trends. His fulfillment solely comes from inspiring people to be positive, courageous, transparent, and socially engaged.

In an environment where artists who rap about the same limited subject matter are rewarded in the commercial rap industry, Crenshaw’s music defies conformity.”

Mic Crenshaw

Mic Crenshaw speaking on his role with Hip Hop Congress

“I’ve been down with Congress since the early 2000s. I think Shamako N. invited me to join Congress in about 2007 roughly, He said, “You don’t join Congress, Congress joins you.” The rest is history.  I’ve attended and presented at a few conferences and have the title of Northwest Regional Director.”

In this one-on-one interview, you’d get to understand more of this phenomenal artist with words from her own mouth.

How do you balance your various roles as a singer, songwriter, actor, and scriptwriter?

It’s easy. Writing movies is just like writing songs. And shooting movies to me is just like shooting music videos. Probably because I sing country and country music tells stories. So, I can balance my life because it’s the same life in one.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest project?

Bama Girl is based on true events. It’s something really sensitive that happened to me in my life and I wanted young women to be aware of the signs of trafficking. There are so many different ways to get caught up in that life.

Bama Girl key art

Watch Bama Girl onTubi

What drew you to the world of scriptwriting and film production?

I’ve worked on set as a Personal Assistant on Marvel sets, Tyler Perry sets, and many more, also doing a lot of background actress roles just to learn, so I watched the directors for hours and hours until I realized even without a budget I can do what they do as well.

How do you approach the creative process when writing songs versus writing scripts?

I love telling stories. It’s the same formula as writing songs and movies to me. Because country music is like a movie.

In which year would you say that you’ve actually recorded your first country song?

14 years ago, my first song was called, “Get Away”. That’s when I knew this was it.

What inspired your multi-genre experiences?

I’ve always wanted to sing country music. It’s just no one would really accept it in Atlanta, so I ended up going in and auditioning for a girl group and they ended up turning me into a rapper because of my tattoos, so I kind of just got caught up in that lifestyle and gave people what they wanted, but really what I wanted was to sing Country Pop.

Explain the emotions you felt on making the decision to depart Alabama and relocate to Atlanta when you did many years ago.

It wasn’t hard at all because I still go home on the weekends to visit my family.

What were some of your exceptions once reaching the ATL?

The first day I moved to Atlanta, I got a waitressing job at Hard Rock Café, and right next to Hard Rock was a studio and that’s where I auditioned for a girl group, so it really happened instantly for me when I first moved to ATL. because God was telling me to go to Atlanta so I did.

How long after getting settled in Atlanta would you say motion started to flow and well-known artists and entrepreneurs reached out to collaborate? And who were some of those people?

It happened instantly when I moved there, I ended up being in the group called “Noralynn Rowe”, and we were signed to Noon Time. They had Ciara at one point along with August Alsina, and Jazzy Pha, we had a song with 2 Chainz and more, so it instantly happened for me.

What was growing up in Alabama like?

I grew up in Portland, Oregon, but every summer I would go home to Tuskegee, Alabama, just to be around my own kind, but when I was in Portland I sang in the church choir in the school choir. I even led the Martin Luther King assembly every year because I was the only black girl in my school, me and my sister, lol.

Could you share a most memorable experience from your journey as an artist so far and looking back at it now it was a lesson worth experiencing?

My best experience with this music was when I used to be with Shawty Lo. He was the first artist to ever let me open up for him on a big stage. He gave me a lot of opportunities, and if it wasn’t for him, then I wouldn’t have all the features I had, and I wouldn’t have done a lot of the things that I did, Rest in peace, Shawty Lo.

As a creative and determined woman, what challenges have you faced in the industry, and how did you overcome them?

It’s very hard being a female in the industry, you know of course we all get tried we all get taken advantage of, but that’s why everybody does not win, you have to keep going, and you must have faith in God, and just let him lead the way, and do the best to avoid men that gives women a tough time and portrays, you have to do this to make it to the next level, there’s ways around that because I’m a prime example.

How emotional is it for you to incorporate social issues and important themes into your music and films?

I mean, it’s not hard, you know, I sing country music. That’s what we do, we tell what’s going on, we tell real-life situations and we tell what’s going on in our lives daily, that’s all Country.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who want to pursue multiple creative disciplines?

Just don’t give up, you know I used to have dreams that I was shooting movies and I was doing all this big stuff. You know they were all in my dreams, and now my dreams are coming true, so just keep dreaming and striving, and soon after, as long as you don’t ever stop, it will happen.

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited about?

I just finished Bama Girl, which dropped on Tubi and I have another film called “The Other Woman” that is dropping this summer. I’m working on two more films, so I’m staying very busy and getting stuff done. I’m hoping one day Tyler Perry will see all the work that I’m doing and sign me as one of his Writers and Directors.

How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating in such an ever-evolving industry?

I got God. I understand the power I have, to always thank God for it, but these dreams keep popping up in my head and I’m writing them down and I’m bringing them to life. I don’t think it will ever stop.
