Award-winning founder Tamaira “Miss Tee” Sandifer is recognized as LA Times Inspirational Woman Leader and Gold Stevie® Awards Winner; BEHR Paints Joins Initiative with Donation of Paints and Coatings for Renovation.

Studio T Arts & Entertainment (STAE), in partnership with world-renowned architecture firm Gensler, continues the nationwide expansion of its flagship ‘Innovation Factory’ (STAE-IF) to provide sustainable access to arts education for underserved youth across the U.S. The multi-million-dollar project is transforming STAE’s Sacramento facilities with plans to extend its reach to other cities.

The Sacramento location covers an area of 44,000 square feet and has a project budget of $30 million. Phase One is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2026. Once completed, the facility will feature state-of-the-art spaces for arts education, performances, and community partnerships. STAE’s expanded offerings aim to empower underserved youth through creative career development, financial literacy, and life skills training. So far, the Innovation Factory has received substantial support from BEHR, which donated paints and coatings to the project. The STAE-IF has also been awarded a grant of $100,000 by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to upgrade its HVAC systems and enhance the project’s energy efficiency.

STAE kicked off the soft opening of the Sacramento Innovation Factory in January 2024, and this upcoming milestone will mark the culmination of Phase One. Phase Two will expand the STAE-IF model to satellite locations in Tulsa, Philadelphia, Harlem, and Atlanta by 2026. These facilities will replicate the successful model of creative empowerment, bringing crucial arts and technology resources to underrepresented communities across the country.

Miss Tee has earned widespread recognition for her leadership and contributions to the creative economy and social impact. Her recent accolades include being named a 2024 Involve x YouTube Heroes Top 100 Women Role Model, a 2024 Los Angeles Times Inspirational Women Leadership Awards Honoree, and a Gold winner for Female Executive of the Year at the 21st annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business. STAE was also honored with a Silver Organization of the Year award at the Stevie® Awards and the prestigious 2024 Global Recognition Award. This collaboration with Gensler builds on the success of previous community partnerships. The Gensler team, led by Kevin Sherrod, Practice Area Leader for Arts & Culture at Gensler, will shepherd the design for Phase One of the Innovation Factory. Kevin Sherrod, a distinguished architectural designer and educator, has significantly contributed to advancing design justice and community resilience through his work with marginalized communities. Recognized as a Culture Champion on Forbes’ inaugural Culture 50 list, Kevin has led and contributed to transformative projects like the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Compton College student housing, and Gallery 90220, showcasing his dedication to fostering inclusive, impactful spaces. Key team members for the Sacramento project include Wayne Thomas (Project Architect), Ryan Ihly (Principal, Studio Director, Industrial & Logistics Leader), Shawn Shin (Design Director), and Joseph Suh (Project Designer).

Lil Durk’s Arrest Sparks Shockwaves in Hip-Hop Community

In a sudden twist that has sent ripples through the hip-hop world, popular Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, has been arrested in South Florida and charged with murder-for-hire. Law enforcement confirmed on October 24th that the artist, widely known for his street-centric lyrics and ties to Chicago’s OTF (Only the Family) collective, is being held without bond in Broward County Jail. The charges against him are deeply serious, and he faces a complex legal battle ahead.

Broward County Arrest and Allegations

Lil Durk’s arrest is grounded in an extensive federal investigation that links him to a conspiracy charge around a murder-for-hire scheme. According to police records, Durk is currently awaiting transfer of custody to U.S. Marshals, signaling that federal authorities are taking over the case.

The arrest comes as a result of the investigation into the murder of Saviay’a Robinson aka Lul Pab, cousin to Quando Rondo, another well-known figure in the rap world. Robinson was killed in Los Angeles in 2022, and authorities allege a network of affiliations within the OTF collective, linking them directly to this act of violence.

Connections to OTF and Alleged Involvement

The indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles claims that five other Chicago natives, allegedly tied to OTF, have been arrested alongside Durk. Among the evidence presented are flights and rental car reservations, reportedly paid for with a credit card connected to the OTF label. King Von was killed in 2020 after a fight outside an Atlanta lounge escalated, leading to his death at the hands of a known associate of Quando Rondo. Chicago family-operated business Vehicle Management Solutions (VMS)  assisted with the arrival of 65 trucks being mobilized for Hurricane Milton relief  in Florida. In order to support the hardest-hit areas, VMS initially deploying 40 trucks to Tampa for debris clearance and rescue operations. VMS expanded its efforts by sending an additional 25 trucks from Markham, Illinois.

Led by Senior VP Early Walker—recipient of the Joe Biden Lifetime Achievement Award—these trucks are crucial for clearing roadways, removing damaged vehicles, and facilitating access for emergency responders.  The towing truck drivers are currently facing significant challenges, including hazardous conditions with debris and flooded roads that heighten the risk of accidents. Long hours are required to meet the demands of disaster recovery, often leading to fatigue. Logistical hurdles such as fuel shortages and limited access to maintenance facilities further complicate their operations, with safety concerns heightened due to unstable roadways.

To ensure operational efficiency and driver safety, VMS has arranged accommodations in a four-story hotel while the team works diligently in these challenging conditions. Their rapid deployment is essential for restoring infrastructure and enabling recovery teams to begin their vital work. Early Walker and several truck drivers are available for interviews, offering insights into their critical work and ongoing recovery efforts. Walker has extensive experience coordinating disaster recovery missions, having previously led operations for Hurricane Harvey and the Kentucky tornadoes

This disaster initiative underscores the essential role of private companies like VMS during national disasters. Their prompt action and operational capacity are vital to supporting recovery efforts in Florida.

I can’t tell you how thrilling it is to witness the rise of an artist who grabbed your attention early in their journey. We at The Hype Magazine want to send a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to AKB, also known as “The Indian Dentist Rapper,” for earning a spot in the first round of GRAMMY voting! What’s So Big About The AKB Story?!

Here’s a reminder from our previous coverage:

An immigrant, AKB, hailing from Ahmedabad, India, embarked on a remarkable journey that led him from his roots to the vibrant landscape of California at the age of 10. After spending a significant chunk of his formative years in the Golden State until the age of 18, he returned to India for five years. There, he pursued and successfully earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

In furtherance of his dream in music, he currently owns and steers his own business, a Pediatric Dental office near LA, AKB has seamlessly integrated his dual passions. Notably, he consistently drops a new song and accompanying video on the 1st of every month. “Tane Hu Che?” stands as his 14th consecutive release, showcasing AKB’s dedication and prowess in both the dental and music realms.

This story is all about putting work clothes on your dreams and building your foundation, framing out the structure, adding power, plumbing…you get my drift so I’ll just let that sit with you.

33rd annual 5k run/walk and music festival – postponed due to Hurricane Helene – will take place October 19th at Piedmont Park

ATLANTA – The 33rd annual AIDS Walk Atlanta Music Festival and 5k Run presented by AHF Pharmacy and Wells Fargo – originally scheduled for September 28th – is now set for Saturday, October 19th and still will feature multiple award-winning rapper and hip-hop artist Lil’ Kim.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world’s largest nonprofit HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, hosts AIDS Walk Atlanta Music Festival and 5k Run which raises more than $1 million each year for 13 Atlanta-based HIV/AIDS service organizations. Past AIDS Walk Atlanta artists have included Ashanti, Myá, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Monica, Sevyn Streeter, Wale, and Trina.

This is the second time Lil’ Kim has joined AHF to educate audiences about the fight against HIV/AIDS.  In 2021, she headlined AHF’s Florida AIDS Walk and Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale.

Led by Rep. Rhonda Taylor, Sigla Creative, and The Hype Magazine, “A Campaign a Week” Initiative Aims to Empower Voters Amid Critical Challenges

In the face of unprecedented challenges, including a lack of funding, time constraints, and a hurricane ravaging the Southeast, a dedicated team of activists, media partners, and creatives have united to tackle pressing voting issues in Georgia ahead of the November 5th, 2024, election. Led by Rep. Rhonda Taylor, the “A Campaign a Week” initiative is rallying nationwide support to fight voter suppression, misinformation, and intimidation.

Starting in August, the design and copywriting team at Sigla Creative has been tirelessly crafting compelling ads and materials, focusing on critical issues like Black Voter Registration Day, voter suppression, and misinformation. Their next target: voter intimidation. These ads are being strategically disseminated across digital and print platforms to reach diverse communities.

The effort is amplified by The Hype Magazine, serving as the media megaphone for the movement. With their extensive digital reach and media empire, The Hype Magazine ensures that the campaign’s message circulates across all social media channels, empowering voters to make their voices heard.

Rep. Rhonda Taylor, a leading advocate for voter rights in Georgia, expressed the importance of the campaign, stating, “This election is one of the most consequential of our lifetimes. We’re battling not only the physical elements but systemic efforts to suppress voters’ rights. But we were born for these times, and we’re prepared to do everything it takes to ensure every vote counts.”

With the help of ACLU Georgia, the campaign is also focused on ensuring voters are registered by the October 7th deadline, providing accurate information about polling locations, and encouraging citizens to report instances of voter intimidation or misinformation through the Election Protection Hotline.

Serato, the legendary audio software company, is celebrating 25 years of revolutionizing the industry with its innovative technology and premier suite of DJ and music production software. Founded by New Zealand natives Steve West and AJ Bertenshaw, Serato launched its first product, the revered Pitch ‘n Time, in 1999. The brand has since become ubiquitous with some of the biggest names in music, with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Drake, A$AP Rocky and more name-dropping Serato in their lyrics, and artists like Questlove, Erykah Badu, Metro Boomin, A-Trak, DJ Snake and DJ Jazzy Jeff utilizing the software. In honor of this major milestone, Serato will release a special limited-edition reissue of the original Serato Scratch Live Control Vinyl, which completely changed the game for DJs and modernized the artform following its original 2004 unveil. Only 1,500 units will be available to purchase in select stores globally for $49 USD starting October 1, 2024 at 9am NZT.

The “Serato Scratch Live Control Vinyl – 25th Anniversary Edition” features a pair of 12” 140g control vinyls, encased in a commemorative 25th-anniversary jacket. The reissue will consist of five classic colors including black, transparent red, transparent blue, orange, and gray marble. To add to the excitement, the colorway purchasers receive will remain a surprise until they unwrap the package.

Megan Thee Stallion leads this year’s nominations with an outstanding twelve nods. Megan’s nominations include ‘Song of the Year,’ ‘Lyricist of the Year,’ ‘Hip Hop Album of the Year,’ ‘Hip Hop Artist of the Year,’ ‘Hustler of the Year,’ ‘Best Live Performer,’ ‘Best Hip Hop Video,’  ‘Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse,’’ ‘Impact Track,’ and three in the category for ‘Best Collaboration.’  Kendrick Lamar follows with eleven nods, including ‘Best Hip Hop Video,’ ‘Best Live Performer,’ ‘Lyricist of the Year,’ twice for ‘Song of the Year,’ ‘Best Collaboration.’ ‘Hip Hop Artist of the Year,’ ‘Video Director of the Year,’ ‘Impact Track,’ ‘Hustler of the Year,’ and ‘Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse’. Drake rounds out the top three nominees with an impressive eight nods. Cardi B, GloRilla, Metro Boomin, and Nicki Minaj each score seven nods. Future and Travis Scott tie with six nods each.

Other notable nominations include 21 Savage and 41, who received four nominations each. A$AP Rocky, Common, Lil Wayne, Pete Rock, and Sexyy Red each received three nominations.
